What is the Facebook Ad Library?
It's a free Meta tool that shows active ads on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Audience Network for any Page in any country. Meta launched it for transparency, but it has become one of a media buyer's most useful tools for seeing what competitors advertise, how they write their ads, and which offers they use.
You don't need to log in. This tool only builds the search link with the right settings and collects no data.
What can you learn from competitors' ads?
- How long an ad has run: the Library shows each ad's start date. An ad running for two months or more is usually working, because nobody keeps paying for a losing ad.
- Number of versions: the same ad in several versions means the competitor is testing or scaling it.
- Angle and offer: do they focus on price, results or reviews? Do they offer free shipping?
- Creative format: UGC video, static design or a product carousel?
Limits of the Facebook Ad Library
For commercial ads in most countries, the Library doesn't show spend or results, and it never shows targeting. Spend appears only for social issue and political ads, and to a limited extent for ads in the European Union. So treat run time and version count as rough signals of success, not proof.
Learn without copying
The goal isn't to copy a competitor's ad but to understand the market: what customers are used to seeing, and where the gaps are. Collect 10 to 20 long-running ads in your niche, group them by angle, then test a different angle in your own style.
