File specifications

  • Images: JPG or PNG; the minimum width is 600 px, but 1080 px gives better quality. Up to 30 MB.
  • Video: MP4 or MOV, up to 4 GB. Upload the highest quality you have and let Meta compress it.
  • Sound: many people watch Feed without sound, so add captions, while Reels are mostly watched with sound on.

Do you need a design for every placement?

Not necessarily; two designs cover most placements: 4:5 for Feed and Explore, and 9:16 for Stories and Reels. In Ads Manager you can upload both in the same ad using "customize by placement", so each version shows in its place. Relying on one square image everywhere makes the ad look small in Stories, and Meta may crop its edges automatically.
